IE9 Breaks CFDOCUMENT PDFs on BlueDragon.NET

BlueDragon.NET uses the Internet Explorer (IE) HTML rendering engine when creating PDF documents via the CFDOCUMENT tag. Changes in the recently released IE9 break this feature. Therefore, you cannot install IE9 on workstations or servers that you intend to use to create PDFs using the CFDOCUMENT tag on BlueDragon.NET; instead, you must have IE7 or IE8 installed. If you've already installed IE9, simply uninstalling it resolves the problem.

A solution for this issue will be in the BlueDragon.NET 9.0 release planned for later this year.

This issue does not affect the BlueDragon Java editons (BlueDragon JX or BlueDragon for Java EE).

Vince,

You mention BlueDragon.NET 9.0 here. This is the first I've seen mention of a major new release from New Atlanta. Do you have any details on what all will be included in the next release or when we can expect it in 2011?

Thanks!
Nick

This blog entry I posted some time ago talks about some of the things we're doing in BD.NET 9.0:

We're currently in private beta testing of BD.NET 9.0 for Windows Azure, and expect to start public beta testing of the full product mid-year, with final release before the end of 2011.

Thanks for the info and link. Thoughts on some of Adobe's CF8/9 proprietary tags like cfspreadsheet, cfpdf, and the assorted javascript integration for things like modal dialogs and autocomplete lists for text boxes? Are they on the roadmap for BD 9 or possibly future releases?

Will the new version still run on Win Server 2k3 since you're working hard on integrating Microsoft's newer server products?

We'll announce the full feature set when the public beta starts, but regarding some of your specific questions:

- Our goal is to support the full set of "Core" tags and functions, and most of the "Extended Core" tags and functions as defined by the (now defunct) CFML Advisory Committee:

http://opencfml.org/display/cfmladvisory/Home

This would include the CFSCRIPT and expression enhancements make in CF8/9.

- You'll note that CFPDF and the "assorted javascript integration" tags are not part of the Core or Extended Core sets, but are defined as "Vendor Specific" (I can't find CFSPREADSHEET anywhere). It's unlikely that we'll support any of these, and in fact I think there are pretty good reasons why we shouldn't.

- No, BD.NET 9.0 will not be supported on Windows Server 2003; it will require IIS 7.x and .NET 4.0. We'll continue to sell and support BD.NET 7.x for anyone who needs to deploy on WS03 and/or .NET 2.0.
